“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new” – Albert Einstein
I don’t think I have a favourite, but the song “Arcade”- Duncan Lawrence ft Fletcher touches my soul. I love RnB music.
What are you really good at?
I honestly don’t know what I’m good at. I’ve been an academic my whole life and I was great at Math and science-related subjects. Now, I would say that I’m good at encouraging people on their fitness journey.
Arrogance, condescending people, bad hygiene, judgmental people
Most memorable moment
When Malabar Government asked me to be their feature speaker for their graduation. It was a really intimidating but rewarding experience.
I love old Disney movies… Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Emporer’s New Groove etc. I don’t have a favourite. I’m also always down for a good horror movie
The Pelican Brief, as well as any Stephen King novel. The Bill Hodges trilogy from Stephen King was a favourite of mine. I love a good suspense novel!
Your most embarrassing moment?
I’ve had too many to call one my “most embarrassing”. Probably when my work pants somehow got a hole down the middle seam by my butt, and a lady in the grocery had to point it out to me because I had no idea… I wanted to die.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Caffeine for sure. I love it, but I also can’t live without it. I am not myself until I’ve had my morning coffee
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A doctor, but that changed shortly after when I realized I hated Biology and couldn’t stand the sight of blood
Where would you most like to be right now?
On vacation, maybe in Jamaica, relaxing on a beach.
Your Dream Job?
My dream is not to work. Honestly, I would love to come up with a billion-dollar idea and then sell it to the highest bidder. I’d use that money to travel, experience new things and actually enjoy the time I have left on earth.
What is one thing people may be surprised to find out about you?
I suffer from body dysmorphia, which falls under body image issues. That being said, I’m not as confident as I appear to be. Some days I get thrown into a state of depression because I hate how I feel in my own body. Although I have these insecurities, I’m on my journey to self-love and I’m getting a lot better.
What silly or funny thing makes you afraid or creeps you out?
Bugs! I turn into Usain Bolt the minute I see any bug near me, especially cockroaches or grasshoppers.
If you were to end up in jail, what might be the reason?
Killing someone to defend my family or someone I love.
How would you like to be remembered?
I’d like people to remember the empathy, the way I would sometimes put other people’s feelings before my own
One word or phrase that describes you
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Not everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. I’ve always struggled with being “too nice” and ignoring blatant warning signs that would tell me about a person’s character because I strongly believed in giving people the benefit of the doubt. I’ve learned that sometimes, what you see is exactly how it is.
What’s the worst thing about being female?
Glass ceiling aside, I think the worst thing would have to be the blatant disrespect we encounter on a daily basis, being oversexualized and underestimated constantly.
“Don’t let anyone…” hold you back from doing what makes you happy.
What motivates you?
I am self-motivated usually…when I put my mind to something, then I will do what it takes to achieve it. My family is definitely my driving force, specifically my sister. We always talk about our futures, trying to put a positive spin on it and she makes me feel like I can accomplish most, if not all of the goals I set for myself. This motivates me to keep trying, even when I feel like I’ve hit rock bottom.
How would you describe yourself?
I would say I’m a caring, empathetic and outgoing person, who gets along well with others and knows how to have a good time.
What do you love about being a Trini?
I love the beauty of our island and our culture. We are so privileged to be living in a place where people come when they’re on vacation.
What advice would you give a younger girl?
Don’t allow yourself to be limited or underestimated by society. Do what makes you feel fulfilled and happy. We only get one chance at life, and we don’t know how long we’ll be here… make the most of it.
Also, protect your heart.. not everyone deserves to be in your personal space, especially if it takes a toll on you.
